The SDI and NAUI Instructor Course will teach current Divemaster or Assistants Instructors the knowledge to safely function as an SDI
or NAUI Instructor with the abilities to teach Open Water Scuba Divers, Advanced
Divers, Rescue Divers, Divemasters and Assistant Instructors. The program is divided into two sections, an Instructor Development Course (IDC) and an Instructor Evaluation Course (IEC).
# Be a minimum age of twenty one (21)
In the TDI Gas Blender Instructor Course, the instructor candidate will receive a foundation of skills and knowledge that is needed to blend enriched air nitrox for recreational divers. After covering academic subjects including the responsibilities of the gas blender, oxygen handling, gas production equipment and oxygen analyzing the candidate will demonstrate proficiency in blending enriched air nitrox as well as conducting the TDI Gas Blender course. Advanced Gas Blender Instructor Building upon the TDI Gas Blender Instructor Course, the next step is taken in the TDI Advanced Gas Blender Instructor Course where the candidate will develop and master the skills and knowledge needed to conduct the TDI Advanced Gas Blender Course to produce custom mix gases for technical diving that include helium. As with all instructor level training, the candidate will demonstrate their ability to conduct this course with proficiency. Nitrox Instructor
TDI Nitrox Instructor is an entry level course for instructors wishing to teach Advanced Nitrox Instructor
The TDI Advanced Nitrox Instructor Course qualifies Nitrox Instructors Decompression Procedures Instructor
The TDI Decompression Procedures Instructor course prepares the Advanced Nitrox Instructor to teach the theory, methods and procedures of planned staged decompression diving. While this course is taught in conjunction with TDI Advanced Nitrox Instructor Course, it also can be paired with TDI Advanced Wreck Instructor as well as TDI Extended Range Instructor
In the TDI Extended Range Instructor Course, the instructor candidate will receive training in the proper techniques, equipment requirements and hazards of extended range diving to depths of up to 55 metres/180 feet, while utilizing nitrox mixtures and oxygen for staged decompression. While using helium-based breathing gases, the TDI Trimix Instructor Course delivers the training required to teach trimix diving that requires staged decompression. Utilizing gases containing no less than 18% oxygen, candidates will complete the four required dives up to 60 metres/200 feet. Allowing dives to a maximum of 100 metres/330 feet and utilizing custom helium, nitrogen and oxygen mixes, the TDI Advanced Trimix Instructor Course is the crowning achievement for technical instructors. During the course, the instructor candidate studies a well-rounded curriculum and completes four training dives to demonstrate mastery of advanced trimix skills. Topics that candidates may be asked to present include: Cavern Instructor As the first in a series of overhead courses, the TDI Cavern Diving Instructor Evaluation Course takes a serious look at the professionalism and skills of the candidates. Instructor candidates are evaluated for their level of knowledge and proficiency in presenting a TDI Cavern course as well as their proficiency in demonstrating land and water skills. While keeping a close eye on the overall attitude towards safety, the evaluator also considers the candidate's ability to develop skilled, efficient and well educated divers that are aware of the environmental impact that divers may have in cavern systems. Intro Cave Instructor Going beyond the light zone and building upon the values found in the TDI Cavern Instructor Evaluation, the TDI Introduction to Cave Diving Instructor Evaluation (commonly referred to as "Intro"), Intro Instructor candidates will have taught three cavern courses and assisted with at least one Intro to Cave course by this point. Having been recommended by a TDI Cave Instructor for this evaluation, the candidate will demonstrate the ability to educate overhead students in cave etiquette, communications and cave diving skills in an academic setting. Moving on, the candidate will demonstrate their proficiency in teaching in-water skills such as buoyancy control, S-drills, emergency procedures and lost diver drills to name a few. Full Cave Instructor Far and above, the TDI Cave Diving Instructor rating is an outstanding accomplishment few can claim. Arriving at Cave Diving Instructor Evaluation, the candidate has conducted at least three Intro to Cave Diving courses as well as having assisted in at least one Cave Diver Course. Following the format as Cavern and Intro, the candidate, having been recommended a TDI Cave Instructor, will demonstrate many of the Intro skills as well as now adding academic subjects such as gas matching procedures for example. Additional in-water skills include air sharing through restrictions, lights out drills and traverses, gaps and circuits.
